What can be done?

We need stronger regulation on the use of AI and algorithms, as well as stronger content moderation in the Global South. We must acknowledge that language and local context, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, play a significant role in regulating offensive content. We also need to address online violence against women and girls, something that pushes them off online spaces.
