What can be done?
We need more transparency from companies about their content moderation policies, as well as about practices that affect user privacy. And we need governments to be transparent about their data collection and use of surveillance technology.
Nicaragua passed a cybercrime law that dramatically undermines free speech online. Its ambiguous language leaves wide room for abuse, especially given the government’s high record of human rights abuse.
