Majd is a Palestinian-Syrian and Canada based systems design engineer, applying the craft of systems thinking to cities, their maps, and archives. He’s also the inaugural Bassel Khartabil Free Culture Fellow, and one of the founders of Palestine Open Maps.
What can be done?
2020 has shown us how contested documentation of real events can be. We need decentralized tools for documentation, archiving, and sharing that are community owned and governed. This starts with building open source tools and convincing technologists that we need to work on public interest projects, and to compensate people working on these projects equitably.
