What can be done?
We need to recognize the significance of media and information literacy and redesign it so it becomes a mandatory subject throughout formal education. The new design should consider the increasing importance of the internet in people’s everyday lives without isolating it from the offline world, with a comprehensive approach to fake news, bullying, privacy, inclusion, and algorithms, accompanied by strategies for a more empowered and responsible use of the online space.
