Maria is the research and partnerships director at OONI, where she manages community engagement and research on internet censorship around the world. She previously worked with the Tactical Technology Collective and India’s Centre for Internet and Society.
What can be done?
Like a doctor, to understand the health of the internet, we need to investigate what is wrong in order to make it better, especially in terms of censorship. This is possible through network measurement and help from different digital rights communities, which can help highlight where the internet has been shut down, or what areas are most vulnerable to attacks.
