Mohamed is a Cairo based open knowledge enthusiast. He’s also a board member of Global Voices and the manager of its project Lingua, a community of volunteer translators who translate Global Voices’ content into over 50 languages.
What can be done?
We should devote more resources to capacity building and community outreach and push for more diversity among hired staff in organizations. At the same time, we need to reach out to less privileged activists and communities, making technologies available to newcomers and aiming to be community coordinators, not gatekeepers.
