Mong is an activist and writer based in the Philippines, and also the editor for South East Asia for Global Voices and IFEX. He was previously a two-term member of the Philippine House of Representatives.
What can be done?
We need to redirect state resources and enforce policies to prioritize fast and reliable internet access as schools shift to a more online mode of learning. We should broaden the concept of access to include affordability, a safe use of the internet, and media literacy.
