Niels is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam and Texas A&M University. His research focuses on how norms such as human rights get inscribed, resisted, and subverted in the Internet infrastructure through its transnational governance.
What can be done?
Human rights considerations, as well as the societal impact of technology, should be a structural consideration in the developments, standardization, and implementation of technology, especially in institutions devoted to internet governance and standards.
