What can be done?
We need to think of ourselves as internet communities, not simply massive aggregates of random people. We should get back to basics: take care of people and be kind. We often treat people with much less respect online than we would offline, and this can turn the web into a place of vitriol and violence. We need to care for those close to us facing abuse, but also for those far from us, even those with whom we disagree.
